What's with the pigs in Vestavia Hills? We’ve got answers.
Painted pig statues are popping up all over Vestavia.
The Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce is launching a Dine and Play summer scavenger hunt on June 1 to remind residents to support local businesses. As a part of the city's "pig" campaign, these hand- painted, life-sized statues are strategically placed inside storefronts to remind residents to support local businesses. The pigs represent tax dollars returning to the city's "piggybank."
Anyone can participate and have the chance to win a grand prize with an assortment of items donated from the businesses. The "hunt" ends July 31st.
To take part in the scavenger hunt, all you need is a Bingo card. The cards can be found at either the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce office or a number of local businesses including:
You can also print your card here.
The Bingo cards provide clues to find 19 different pigs all around the city.
One hint reads for example… "Big Mac is at the Highway 31 location where you can purchase his namesake." Answer: McDonalds on 31.
Bring your finished Bingo card to the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce office (1090 Montgomery Hwy, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216) for a prize as well as be entered for the Grand Prize!
"It is a reminder to shop local and spend your dollars in Vestavia this summer," Annilyn Warner, office manager of the Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce told Bham Now.
Beginning in 2015 as a part of Vestavia's Shop, Dine and Play campaign, three pig statues were first created to symbolize the categories of shopping, dining and entertainment. The Chamber of Commerce wanted to inspire residents to subscribe to local businesses as a way to give back to their city.
The project has been a community effort, with Vestavia High School and middle school art students often painting the pigs.
With the growth of local businesses and recent development of the Vestavia City Center, this may be one piggybank worth investing in.
