Liberia: NaFAA Staffer Absconds in Iceland
The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) is disclosing the immediate termination of the employment of Ms. Zoe Yarwhere, a former Fishery Monitoring and Evaluation Officer with the fisheries authority, due to her desertion of post and unexcused absences.
Yarwhere's absences, according to the NaFAA's director of human resources, were brought on by her failure to come home to Liberia after finishing her studies in Iceland on April 25, 2023. Ms. Yarwhere's action contravenes Section 5.3 a, of the Human Resource Manual, which emphasizes that "14 consecutive days of unexcused absence are considered a voluntary resignation".
Ms. Yaehere failed to return home after being formally informed of her violation of the institution's HR policy on May 19, 2023. Ms. Zoe Yarwhere, with support from UNESCO, departed the country last year to study Fisheries Policy and Management in the Republic of Iceland.,
The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority, (NaFAA) action is to deter the recurrence of such behavior.
